Nutrition Lost On Most Athletes

Many athletes do not eat enough whole foods!

Many young athletes forget about a key ingredient to success, – nutrition! I am asked on a regular basis what are good ways to increase energy, add mass, or help recovery during a tournament? Most are looking for a miracle pill or the latest suppliment to give them the edge, when much of what they need is missing from their diet. This is often a much overlooked area when a child starts playing sports. Parents don’t hesitate to hire a trainer or buy the latest supplement, yet they barely pay attention to what their own child is eating.

Here are some basic rules for diet and supplements for your own young athlete.

Eat often.

Your youth athlete should eat a minimum of four times per day.

•Breakfast
•Lunch
•Post practice
•Dinner

There is definitely room in there for an additional snack between breakfast and lunch or between lunch and practice.

HELPFUL HINTS for finding your Rhody Run XXXII race day photo:

  • Use the Search feature, entering your bib number in the Search bar.
  • If your bib number was only 1 or 2 digits (i.e. 52), enter 052 in the Search bar. (All searches must be a minimum of THREE digits; use zeros in front of your 1 or 2 digit bib number.)
  • If your photo does not come up, try searching the unknown runners [by entering “unknown” in the Search feature. (Some runner’s numbers were covered up, had no bib on, or cannot be seen clearly / accurately in the photo.)
  • Please review all the photos –and there are many! You may find yourself in another photo!
